I watched a video on youtube of how to do it & that didn't show or mention any convertor etc, it just showed the guy connecting the null modem cable straight from the pc to the Dreambox?

Ive done several Dreambox 500s and all have a female connection.
As far as i know all com ports on desktop pc are female.
Thats why a female to female null modem is needed.

A usb converter is needed if you dont have a desktop with a female com port or you're using a laptop that has usb but doesnt have a female com port.
