DM500 DM500C shows Black screen only... Plz Help.

    hiya,

Yesterday i tried to install a new Multiview plugin for my dreambox DM500c but it all went wrong. I think i might have made a mistake when FTPing the files into a wrong folder or something, as straight after file transfer i restarted the box and thats it! never saw anything on it again.

Only the green light come on and it flashes if you press anything on the remote. the tv screen is just black nothing at all!

I tried to flash the box, using the Null Modem cable and dreamup. I have taken the intruction from a guide found on DIGITAL KAOS. but when i press the connect button on dreamup utility, and connect the box, nothing happens, the message " Connection prepared, now Switch on the Dreambox!" stays on and the Flash button doesnt get active.

Please help as my wife will kill me if she finds out that i have missed the box. .

    Thank you all.

I am using a "Null Modem" cable female to female, but to connect that to my laptop i had to use a Male RS232 to USB which they said to would work with the "Null Modem" cable, as my laptop dont have a serial port.

      Thanks.

there is no other port option and Netwrok is unticked!
I did check my usb to serial port in Device Manager, showing the same port as on Dreamup. I will try a desktop PC tomorrow, and update you.

            Thanks.

Thanks you all for your great support and comments. I did manage to get all sorted, I think the problem was with the USB to Serial Adapter, as it worked first time on my mates desktop computer. No problem at all.

So if anyone else have similar problem please make sure you get rid of the serial to USB adapter and connect directly.

                Thanks.

I used to use an old desktop pc to connect mine but it is a pain in the ar*e, so I bought a pcmcia to rs323 adapter for the laptop for about a tenner from china. Once the drivers were loaded and I changed the com port settings to com 1 it connected first time and is so much easier than pratting about with the other setup.
I would recommend this to anyone with a laptop.
