    Streaming problems

Hello, i got my first dream box today so i'm not very familiar with it yet.

All day i've been trying to stream from the box to my PC via vlc, but i had no luck.

The box is a 500c with enigma i guess.
I've connected it to internet via my PC, i have two network cards so no router.
The box have access to internet and i can connect to it web interface style.

I tried to use the Web-X-TV but when i do the box freezes and i have to unplug the power cable and reconnect it to be able to see tv again.
Same thing happens when i press "vlc" and it downloads a .m4p file, and when i try to open it with vlc, box freezes=/

Is there any special addons i need to download/configure to be able to stream or something else i missed?
I got the box pre-configured so i guess most usable add-ons should already be installed.

Any tips on how i can get this to work would be very nice.

    Thank you.

Hey linuxxx, I've got exactly the same problem. I've found I can get the stream if I click on the "vpid" bit on the top right hand side, and then open the file in vlc 0.9. However If I try to change the channel and try this again the dreambox crashes everytime. By the way this only works in Firefox 3. IE7 just says "page cannot be displayed". I cannot get webx to work either, the furthest I can get is firefox saying "loading video" and thats about it. Any ideas caveman? By the way I have vista home

Well you could try a few different versions of VLC. But Vista is banned at my house, I stuck with an operating system that works. Am at work at the moment so cannot do through a detailed set up etc... VLC is a bit tempermental and can work for a while then just stop.. Try and get it working with IE first..

I've also noticed i cannot access the box from a remote location using my ip.

I am not at home so am doing this by memory for my 600. But i think you press (on your remote) menu/settings/about dreambox.. I take it you have not flashed it with an image from here that could be better for you anyway.. Find out what image you have first though before we go forward..

To be honest mate webxtv works for a while then it doesn't, I upgrade my VLC and it works again and then it stops.. I upgrade or downgrade my VLC to get it working every few months it seems.

Have you tried using within your home network first rather than via the internet to view the webxtv...? My set up is different to yours as I use a DM600 which is known to be better for streaming than a 500 and I also use XP and not that Vista...

                        board ver: 06
                        kernel: Linux 2.6.9
                        release: 0450

that's what i found relevant under "about"

Since last I had a minor breakthru, first i got the streaming to work badly major lag/artifacts and such, box freezing up from time to time, not while streaming but when trying to start the stream.
Then i got it to work as good as you can hope, i skipped dreamview and only used vlc to stream, the quaility was fine some small lag few times but other then that very ok.
But i got greedy and wanted better quality so i quit that stream and set up another with better quality. But it would start, tried many times.

Then i tought fine, i had it working good enough 10 minutes ago, so i replicated those settings but i never managed to get it working again and haven't since, i have no idea why.

And now i have what i would like to call "the best i'll ever get" i'm recording from the box to the computer hdd, and from an remote computer i'm able to use ftp to open and watch the movie, with a delay for about 5 minutes. But no loss in quality or sound as far as i can tell.

And best of all, the box don't freeze for no reason, I can't change channel while recording but that's ok.

But if someone can give an explanation for why the box freezes while i'm trying to start a stream, i'd like to hear it.

ps. i aloso got that FISCstream to work, but the program don't have the settings i need. Perfect picture/sound. So to all it might be enough for download it try it and enjoy. easy to use.
