    Why do you use Dreambox?

I'm new to the scene, and trying to figure out what box to go for. From what I gather, it's pretty much just personal preference.

What's the pros and cons of Dreambox, and why do you choose it over the other boxes available?

The biggest Pro for the dreambox is that it's open source firmware, anyone can mess about and play with the images. This means these are always the first to get fixed when there's been a hit. With the likes of the eurovox, starview, kryptview, etc. the people using these receviers need to wait until a firmware is released.

Plus the dreambox is not just a 'tv only' box. It's a media center. You can record to a PC, play MP3s from your PC on the tv, it has a web interface with a few nice toys, you can add plugins for various things, i.e. internet radio, rss feeds, weather reports, webcams, etc.

All in all, the dreambox is a better box but there's far more too it and requires more patience and learning to get it going. A small amount of linux knowledge is also advantageous.

    DM500 - most common model
    DM600-PVR - hdd compatible for recording/playback/timeshift etc.
    DM800 - As DM600 only in HD.

i bought a blackbox off dvbmonkey, though having read all the threads beforehand i knew i would have to wait.

it took 26 days to arrive. box is fine though and for the price i have no complaints.

Not quite mate, not any more.

The Kryptview is now the box with the quickest fixes, apart from the quick fixes it's a pile of shit like all other non-linux machines.
