Can any-one help me update my DM500c using a null modem cable or point me to a walk through tut as I'm a noob at this and I'm a bit scared of knackering my box

you can only put an image on your box using the null modem cable not the fixes (unless the image you have downloaded has the fixes already added)
so you need to
1. choose a image dkv1.1, dw2 etc
2. use dreamup to flash you box with the image using a null modem cable.
3. download new keys and roms files
4. ftp the keys and roms to var/keys for the keys and var/scce for the roms using a ftp program such as cute ftp etc (make sure they are the latest roms and keys)
5. enjoy your cable
