    500c direct internt connection

I have just ordered a Dreambox 500c form DVBseller, from what I have read I need to get this on the net constantly so it can update the keys automatically. Unfortunately my router is upstairs in one of the spare bedrooms so connecting it directly to my router constantly is not practical.

If I split the cable coming in to the DB 500c to another VM modem will the internet conection be split between the two modems or will I only be able to use one modem?

And if this is posable will the DB500c pick up the internet auto like dhcp or will it have to be set manualy?

      Thanks for the fast reply.

I have a wifi router but I also have about 4m extra cable downstairs connected to my cable box, I also have 3 VM modems and 6 spare F connector screw on connectors and 2 splitters so adding an extra modem wont be a problem, just wondering if it is possible.

There is no need to have a cable box connected to the router, if it's convienent then by all means but it's really a sat thing to have it on the net

3 vm modems... what are you running a p0rntube server .? i connect mine to my network not just for updates, but also cause it allows me to run the box remotely like set timer events, ftp films i have recorded on it to external connections and my xbmc. i also stream tv and recordings through my internal wifi network to the laptops and through the net to my families homes...

is it worth connecting? imho defo.....

aahhh I thought the keys had to be updated like every few days.

Still it would be good to know weather I would get 2 10mb connections or weather it would be split to 2 5mb. As far as I know each modem gets a set of instructions on how fast the connection should be caped to in theory I should get 2 10mb connections with 2 modems but that I think will be another thread.

Does anyone know how often the keys need to be updated? Am sure someone will have a good idea.

LOL no I just have them spare from moving house so much in last year. I would love to have it connected to my desktop as it has about 500Gb free space for recording.

One of my other questions was is a wifi connection fast enough to record real time. Obviously thats a yes it can.

well l have not recorded via wifi to a network share or nas, but with one of these new 300mb wifi router on the market should be no probs. Maplin are selling sitecom jobbies for ?70 ish... netgear are doing them for about ?130 at various online retailers...

Thanks for the info. I think I will connect one of my spare modems to a splitter and connect it to a wifi router (I can get a few netgear ones from work for free) then to my 500c box that way I can connect it to the net and see if I can record real time to my laptop via a normal wifi connection. Once I have tried I will post the results here just in case anybody else whats to know.
