Very sick box - cant even use dreamup

I have flashed a fair few times in my time but never seen this. My mate said he was using dcc to apply a new neutrino image when it all went pear shaped (not a gemini one)

Basically box will barely boot neutrino then go from green to red led. It will then remain on green if you press the front power again (no remote today so not sure what the state of the image is but it boots enough to show the tv clock on screen)

Connect to whatever ver of dreamup you like, connect, power on box.

Now most of time it then uploads the flash-bootloader then just sits there waiting for acknowledge.

If its colder (been off for longer) it will get to the flash erase bit but then bang out at failure to reset lock bits.

Its not the cable or laptop as have tested it using another box.

    Ideas ?

    hyperterm output

    Dreambox DM500

    Linux/PPC load: console=null root=/dev/mtdblock5 rootfstype=squashfs ro

Occsaionally this will also show "booting linux thingy now" also

(Next stage is to use with remote and see what is going on there. )

ok, have remote. has a perfect neutrino image thats completely locked. None of the onscreen commands really do anything. networking is set to off at startup. I can change all settings but when its rebooted nothing has actually changed.

Went into dev folder and tried clearing out partitions nada....

Any ideas ? This is mad. Still cannot get any ver of dreamup to get the box to flash.

I can browse directory and delete files - wonder if there is some file I can delete/ edit that will make a difference (eg network one)

not getting any ip connectivity because the neutrino will not enable the networking and will not save changes after a reboot. (I am a network pro btw)

Sorry didnt mean anything like that was going to send this if you could.

              Change the password on DM
If you have forget the pass of your's DM , just make the next steps.

              1) Install and run TuxBox Commander plugin

              2) Change directory to edit /var/etc/passwd

              3) Remove the encrypted password.

--> ATTENTION !!!! THE passdw file only !!! NOT the passdw-

3.1) In the file /etc/passwd is the line:
              root:b:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh or something as !!!
              root:dkjhfhlksfdiueyr736592cigsdjgfj:0:0:root:/roo t:/bin/sh

3.2) the password field is the b or the encripted string dkjhfhlksfdiueyr736592cigsdjgfj

3.3) Delete the b or the string .
              The line now is:
              root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh
(for the DM500, if you are using an other DM keep theSource: Digital Kaos http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ord-fix-28034/
root as it is, you must delete ONLY the string)
              4) Save the file and exit

              5) Telnet to your DB with root user without password

              6) Create a new root password with the command : " passwd "

If you want put the original file with user:root and pas.:dreambox in one directory in your's DM and if you forget again the pas. then just copy the file passw in the original location

ok, whilst I can delete files using file manager I cannot edit them (locked).
