Dreambox purchase advice

Hi guys,

First post, be gentle with me

I've previously owned a dreambox 500c but to be honest it was a plug and play so i have little to no experience of these babies but hey i do love a challenge. Before i start doing all the necessary reading and research on how to get mine running i would like some pointers on where to buy and what?

My plan is to buy a dreambox 600c as i want the capabilities to replicate as near as possible the s*y+ type box. So i have a few questions prior to buying.

Firstly, would you agree that the 600c is the box most suited to my needs, if not what would you recommend......and

Secondly, where would you recommend that i buy it? I have heard from several sources that i should go for a genuine dreambox as opposed to the imports because of the problems that they can cause (dont shoot the messenger!! i know nothing!). I've noticed that its very hard to discern which sites are genuine sellers and which are coming from China etc

you'll be fine with a clone....cheaper aswell the 600 will do you fine if you just want to pause record and rewind there are other boxes with this feature aswell as hd programming aswell so it depends what you want.

i got my box (500c) from Sat Sun, Digital TV they are clones and come from china but the shipping is fast and the quality was good.

does the dreambox work for recieving sat tv channels and does it uses bins or iks?

if you want to replicate the sky + you may want a twin tuner stb. although expensive, if u have the money, worth every penny. you will find that you will be well entertained with a dm7025 but like i said theyre expensive @?400. but you can record upto eight different channels at the same time. or if linked to your router, watch one channel on ur pc whilst the kids watch something else on the tv. swapable tuners too to cater for whatever service is available. huge range of internet radio stations.....ok ill stop now. and yea i have one.

dreambox's work with bins and if you want to use it for satellite (which is a damn sight more complicated) you will need a 500s or 600s

Apologies if this sounds dull but the advantage of the 7025 over the 600 is just the twin tuner?
i'm assuming that the twin tuner allows you to record one side and watch the other or record two channels ala s*y+.
Is this the main/only advantage is it therefore worth the extra money or what am i missing?
Where also would you advise as a reliable provider of UK models (genuine)

the difference is the 600 can only record from the same transponder at the same time. so although it is possible to watch one channel and record another they would both have to be on the same transponder (which is highly unlikely) so it basically only works as a built in vcr whereas the other model can record one channel (or several) whilst watching another.

I think thats the way i need to go then. Do i need to purchase anything extra or does it all come within the package. I assume the HDD will need to be bought seperately?

everything you need should come with the box apart from the hdd although some places will sell with a hdd after that you will need to transfer a image onto the box and the fixes assuming that you dont only want free to air channels.

one other thing you can mix the 2 tuners if you want sat cable & terrestrial.

yes you can mix the tuners. i orignally had 1 cable and 1 sat tuner. but theres nothing on cable that cant be watched on sat. (well nothing worthwhile). so im using 2 sat tuners one for a motorised dish the other fixed and 28.2e

Hi,

In an ideal world i would go for the sat reciever option but i've been scared off by this option as i'm told its a lot more complicated and all this is very new to me.
I think that another cable reciever (7025 now!) will be the easier option although there not easy to get hold of. I've looked on the sat store site and there sold out and im still awaiting a reply to my enquiry email but would rather go with them as it is a genuine box id prefer
