checklist - bits and bobs to get started

just ordered a dreambox 500c

i'm also placing an order for a cable splitter + cables + bits to share the feed. I know i have a spare ethernet cable somewhere to it connect to the wireless router

is there anything else i should order to ensure i can get to work once it arrives? i'm assuming using the telnet method to ftp the DK 1.1 image means i won't need a null modem cable?

You don't really *NEED* a serial cable (Null Modem) but to be honest, you'd better grab one coz they are essential if things go tits up (which they can do).

You will need one sooner or later.

trouble is a my computer doesn't have a serial port - would this usb -> serial RS232 Dongle do?

yeah they can be tempermental, i've never had a problem with it, but have read here of alot of people having problems with them...
