I wont say that your adapter is totally unusable until you can find a pc or laptop that runs on a Window XP. Might still have chance .. hahhaa
    Thats the only chance

Update: Still could not get it working in Windows 2000 also.

i am using ATen USB-Serial adapter on Win 7 64 bit for flashing with network option and so far no problems. Can work for XP machines too. Althou its more expensive ..

I feel it'll cost more for u to travel thru and fro just to buy n try out cheap adapters that cannot work.

Saw a pic of the Aten but the serial connector is female right? My box serial port is a female so I need a male connector, will it still work if I buy a female-to-male adapter to use with the Aten?

The ATen adapter is male connection. Your null modem cable is female on both sides. Your receiver box's RS-232 port is male connection. So i dun see why u need to buy any extra connector.

Buying the usb adapter alone wont work, you still need to get a rs232 null modem cable. Only 2 items you need, dont buy anything extra
