DM500 Time to admit defeat... :(

I've been trying since yesterday, googling for different methods, and I've gotten nowhere, so it's time to ask for help.

I'm using DK1.1, on a blackbox clone DM500C. It's working 100% for viewing, I've used opendbedit to make my bouquets and hide the crappy channels, and everything's fine.

Yesterday I decided to finally get around to getting the box recording stuff...

Big mistake, and even more grey hairs from the frustration. hehe

I'm trying to make it record to my laptop just now, XP Pro, using CIFS. Shares are working fine because I've been able to share a folder on my laptop fine to my girlfriend's laptop.

I can't get the share mounting on the dreambox.

Doing it via the box's gui, it tells me that the CIFS mount failed.

Doing it via the http interface, the settings don't seem to stick, it just doesn't save them apparently.

Doing it via telnet doesn't work either. I'm out of ideas.

Can someone who's using CIFS/DK1.1 confirm that it works please? Just so I know I'm not barking up the wrong tree...

Any ideas on how to test to make sure CIFS mounting is actually working on my image?

Failing that, any suggestions on a decent image that definitely works with CIFS?

The recording works via CIFS mount, we wouldn't have released an image that doesn't work.

Post your mount settings please including the following:

    Dreambox ip
    PC ip
    PC user account and password
Name of folder on PC that you are trying to record to
Is the folder shared? (right click on folder, select Sharing and Security)

      Hi Devilfish,

Sorry for butting in on thread, i'm having the same problem!
      Settings are!

      IP: 192.168.1.2 CIFS (selected)
      Dir:C:\Dreambox\recordings
      LocalDir:/hdd/movie
      Options:rw.soft.udp.nolock
      Extra:nolock.rsize=8192.wsize=8192
      User:The Boss(my user account)
Pass:left blank (i turned it off)

      Automount is ticked

Running on Vista, in 'Network and Sharing center' all sharing and discovery options are enabled except for password protected sharing.
Also on this page the link 'Show me the shared network folder on this computer' it show up the 'recordings' folder

It keeps telling me that mount has failed, trying for a while now!

      Any suggestion welcome?
      Cheers
      T

I do not have a dm500 anymore but it doesn't matter what image you use for mounting the drive but it is very difficult because you need to get all the permissions and passwords just right on the dreambox and pc.

Change the text in red. I would create a folder in the root of the hard disk, i.e. C:\recordings, and use that, not sure about the sub folders. Don't put in the c:\, you only want to put in the folder name.

Never used Vista but try changing the settings to use IPv4 instead of IPv6, in the network setting somewhere.

            Direct recording doesn't require nGrab.

            Here's a good guide...

How to set up a Mount for Direct Recording

                  Me of little faith, eh?

Got it working. Everything was setup 100%, the problem was...

After creating the username on the pc called dream, I didn't actually log into the pc as that user. If I HAD, It'd have prompted me to change my password because it was my first login. Then, once the login was created and initialised for the first time, it's letting me login as that user to access the shares.

                  Typical!

Glad you got it working WG47...

Recording can be a bugger when trying to set up for the first time. I think it took me weeks to eventually get it working...after giving up and going back to it a few days later!

The dm600 can take an internal hdd for recording so there would be no need for a network mount.

Cheers mate. Yeah, it was a confusing one, but I got there in the end

Very true, but a lot of us already have TBs of cheap 3.5" drives in home servers, no point buying a 120GB 2.5" drive for the same price as a 500GB 3.5" drive in that case.

you should be able to get at least a 250Gb for the same price as a 500gb mate...

fair comment but would prefer to have the disk in the DM, no extra hardware to have powered on for a start.. Sooooo easy to set up.

Well done on getting it all resolved though...
