    Resurrect a Dreambox 500C

Hi fellows, I just registered and I am glad to see fellow enthusiasts here. I am from Singapore. Hi guys!

My 3 years old Dreambox was a workhorse until recently. I got to send back many times to the person who sold me. When I first bough it, I was able to enter the Setup and can even view the channels via LAN and over the internet. He told me some China person (who happens to be in Singapore) is servicing it.

After it was returned to me this person set up a password and I couldn't configure it anymore. OK that's still OK if I can view the channels. He charges me $20 each time. That was after 5 times. I gave up on him and even the brand "Dreambox". :-(

Since then this box kept breaking down. Now it is just flashing the green screen non-stop.

I hope to resurrect this workhorse and hoping someone from this forum and from Singapore is able to help me to overhaul it, and perhaps suggest if it is worth the effort.

    Thanks folks for reading.

Just happy I am able to register in this forum and hear from fellow countrymen.

If you have the time and is willing to learn, then search in the forum on how to save the magic keys, how to flash your box with a new image and setup the channel/bouquet list.

    Otherwise, good luck.

            Flashing is the basics...

(If you do not have coms port, then you need to buy additional usb adapter- Buy Aten brand from Sim Lim Square is your safest bet)

I did my first reflash and it works beautifully!
Thanks for the great help folks! :-))

The null cable and finding a serial port (on newer computers) are the more difficult things though.

Null modem is so easily available at any cable accessories shop in Sim Lim Square, commonly price tagged at S$4-5.

                    Don't just browse and pick.

A data-switch cable which LOOK EXACTLY the same as null modem cable. But the (TX-TX, RX-RX) pin internally is different, it is straight thru, instead of a crossed (null-modem, TX-RX, RX-TX).

Open your mouth and ask if there is no packaging label.
