can VM detect me?

i have a cable splitter which connects both the VM and DM500c - i then connect the scart of the DM500c to the VM box and in turn to the TV

basically i tend to use the VM box most of the time (on demand and free channels) but when i fancy a browse on something else i turn on the DM500c which overrides the signal from the VM box (i keep the VM box on).

Is the VM box able to detect (and report) it's having TV content passed through it?

no m8 but keep your vm box connected for talk back and its best to have a basic package with vm after all we dont want them to go bust do we eh !

this is something I do not understand. Why aren't they able to know who is actually feeding through their cable?
I am guessing that we the DB we would not be able to access the on-demand channels (filmflex) and the iplayer right?
PS: I have internet and telephone but I am planning to get rid of my TV soon
Considering that I would probably be left with the basic TV package (45 channels or something) you guys suggest that I should leave the VB boxe connected?
I was not planning to do so though

as long as you are paying for something to virgin media they cant detect anything godsakes

they can detect something is connected to their feed but to isolate it to your house they would neet to test your individual cable in the cab.

but the question is why would they suspect your house is up to no good and do they have the man power to check if they were to check ramdonly

The easy way they do this is by scanning your area In a van or walking around, If you do not have a satellit dish and are not subscription to cable company, they will wounder how can you be watching Sky 1 the Simpsons @ 7.00 (This of course an old trusted method of detection).

Newer methods used are measuring the usage or draw on there service in a certain area, for example if the draw on a housing estate with 10 subscribers is measured at lets say 100 if this increases to 110 then they know there is someone getting a servive with out paying.

Other methods of detection on some services only are with Mac address or Ip address detection because Cable is a closed network it can in some cases be established when a none service rceiver is hooked up to the network.

As long as you have a basic subscription or better in your home there is nothing that a Cable company can do to you nor will they look to detect any wrong doing.
