600 image on a 500

Just wondering if you could put a dreambox 600 image on a 500 and mount a drive located on my network. Specs are similar on both boxes. Is this a stupid idea?

No...you can't flash any other image than images intended for the box.

If you flash a 600 image on a 500, you will screw the bootloader and it will require JTAG'ing, and vice versa.

You can mount drives on a 500 image, what exactly are you trying to do?

Just to record on to a external hard drive which is hooked up to my router. I know I can use ngrab but just wanted to use an image which suites recording.

Thanks, I was wanting an image which was made with recording in mind. Does that make sense?
