    Null Modem Cable

Hi guys... this is a very noob question... I was told from the person whom I purchased a null modem cable (9-pin) that if both ends of the cable is female, the cable is confirmed a null modem cable and not a serial cable... is that true?

cos i have tried connecting the said cable to my comp but somehow even after i power up, dreamup doesnt seem to respond at all..

    thanks in advance!

thanks for the quick reply... i have done exactly that.. tried connecting it to my pc and then loaded dreamup as the newbie guide instructed... but after powering the box, no response from dreamup.... i am wondering whether it is a wrong cable or the problem lies somewhere else...

looks like its a serial cable and not a null modem cable, but have no fear you dont necessarily need dreamup or a cable to flash. you can use telnet with a crossover cable or a router

          and its quicker

no if youve got a router, use two lan cables one from pc to router, the other from router to dreambox

could you just bear with me for 1 additional question... how do i locate my ip address for my dreambox?

edit: i think i have found my ip address for dreambox by using the command arp -a at cmd prompt
however, when i type telnet ip.address, a command box came up with "Connecting ip.address....", after which the command box just disappear. there was no prompt for username nor password... any idea what went wrong? if its of any help, when i type arp -a, the "Type" for my dreambox ip address was indicated as "invalid" rather than "dynamic".

on your dreambox go to menu>setup>expert setup>communication setup.
                      your ip will be there
