    Dreambox 500 or 600

    Hi,
I have a useless 500 and i am thinking of buying a 600.Is the 600 just a 500 with the pvr facility and is the setup the same as a 500?
    Thanks

The boxes are similar in functionality but at the same time very different.

They have different hardware and tuners, the 600 can take a hard disk for PVR functions. The images are different and the remote is slightly different.

All in all the 600 is an improvement over the 500 but it's much more expensive.

I'm also thinking of going 600 and was curious how much of an improvement there is in the tuner from an original 500?
I do miss a lot of channels on the 500 and the signal booster I bought just made things worse.

          500 or 600

Ive been using the 500 for about 2 years, initially I had a box with a poor tuner which wouldnt scan properly, eventually got a reasonable one and once setup with NFS shares etc it works a treat as a PVR

Ive recently bought the 7025+ and to be honest its the best buy of the lot, I dont think its worth jumping from 500 to 600, maybe to a 7020 or 7025+ or wait for the 800 / 8000 to settle in.

          Hope this helps

          Foo.

I have dm500 for satellite and a dm600 for cable and the I have to say the dm600 is a much better box compared to the dm500. I rarely have to reboot my dm600 but I usually have to reboot my dm500 every other day because it has hung during some task. Like Smirnof_rules I can't rememebr the last time I recorded something from cable to my dm600 but I have hooked both of the boxes to the home netwrk and I now record from dm500 to dm600 and watch it on my dm600.

One of the really nice features (for me at least) of the 600 is the ability to flash the box over the network, even when the system is totally ~~~~ed. There's almost zero requirement for a null modem cable with the 600 and in all the cases I've had where I've been playing around and screwed up an image: in < 5 minutes I've been able got things back up and running.

I record at least 2 progs a day to the local drive of my 600. It's been very stable for quite some time. I also copy the files (.ts) from the 600, convert them to DVD and send to family around the world, that can't get decent UK output.
