dm500c cannot mount drive to record to NAS

    Hi Everyone,

I have been trying unsuccessfully to mount a drive on my DM500c and record to a nas computer running freenas, I followed the how to record to a NAS but after 3 days still can't get it working

The recording to NAS feature was one of the main reasons I bought a Dreambox !

My nas server is accessable from any computer on my LAN and has a static ip 192.168.1.111

My Dreambox has a static ip of 192.168.1.241

I can stream movies to my laptop from the nas so I know its setup correctly, Also I can stream movies to my XBMC xbox as well via samba.

The dreambox is reachable on the network as I have ftp'ed into it and also accessed the web interface.

Following Devilfish's guide on how to setup recording to a NAS I did the following..

I accessed the dreambox via web interface and entered all my details as follows:

Click on CONFIG Button - Click on MOUNT MANAGER Button

    Description: NAS server

    Filesystem Type: 3

    Auto Mount: √

    Client Directory: /hdd/movie

Server Directory: TV (should this be 192.168.1.111/data/TV?)

    IP: 192.168.1.111

    User Name: paul
    Password: dreambox123

    Options: rsize=4096,wsize=4096 (left as default)

    sync:
    atime:
    execm:
    noexec:
    ro:
    rw: √ (checked this box)
    nolock: √ (checked this box)
    intr:
    soft: √ (checked this box)
    udp: √ (checked this box)

Next I click save, when I return to the Mount manager I have a red cross next to the mount and when I click mount it still does not mount ! ? !

I think if I could the drive mounted I could prob do the rest eventually !

    Any ideas please ? PLEASE ! ?

Thanks and sorry about the long post.

The server directory should be a single folder, i.e. don't have multiple tiers of folders, have a folder on the root of the drive. Don't add any ip address or drive letter to the server directory, just the folder name. If the folder has a capital letter, make sure you include the capital letter in the mount settings.

IP address should be the ip address of the NAS, not the dreambox, laptop or router.

Username and password should be an admin account on the NAS.

I've attached my mount settings, there is no password because my PC boots up to the desktop but my account is admin.

      Thanks for the reply mate,
The folder is in the root of the drive and the ip address is the address of the NAS as well.

I wasn't using an admin account so I will try that later after work

I will let you know how I get on.

      Cheers.

I added an admin user but still no luck !

I copied your details exactly as in the picture (obviosuly changing the nas directory and username etc)

Whenever I try to mount it still gives me the red cross on the web interface

Could it have anything to do with the dreambox settings via the remote control ?

        cheers mate.

Mounting using the remote never works on a SMBFS mount.

Can you attach a pic of your mount settings?

Hopefully it will make some sense cos I can't understand how its not working !

            Cheers for all your help

Aren't you supposed to use NFS for one of these mounts

I've never used freenas before but is there a function to 'share' the folder? Like when you use windows you can right click the folder and select 'Security and Sharing' and you can share the folder so that it's accessible to other PCs. I'm not sure you need to do that with a samba share though.

I've mounted to an actual NAS drive but never a NAS PC so it's kinda new to me.

Have you tried the NFS and CIFS options?

I tried changing the filesystem type to NFS but still wouldn't mount. I have now tried NFS,CIFS and SAMBA. All not working

I am starting to think I should have bought the dm600 and just ftp-ed the files from the dreambox to my nas server ! !

Yeah mate in the settings it is shared, I can use access it and send files to and from it via either win xp or linux. This leads me to beleive it is the dreambox having trouble connecting to the NAS and not the other way around.

Freenas is basically a NAS drive with extra functions. I have tried changing to nfs and cifs but no joy either.

Hi had similar issues and found that all the information was correct in devilfish's instructions on how to mount a drive.

The problem was my Mcaffee Firewall. Once i stopped my firewall the mount was ok but when i ran my firewall again the mount was not recognised.

The solution was to run Mcaffee and enter advance Tasks and enter setup home networking and ticked my pc ip address.
                      Ran smoothely after that.
