Dead 500c

My sisters 500c stopped working yesterday :-( Its an original box and was running an older version of the DW image so no Gemini kill here.
Ive used dreamup many times before on a 500s, but this time its not getting detected at all, also tried Hyperterminal connected with the Null modem but get no output at all.

Am i right in thinking the only way to recover is via JTAG ?

Also all the guides ive seen have files for the 500s, surely its the same bootloader for the 500c or it it dependent on the tuner ( ive seen mention of Alps specifically )

In so much as the green light comes on, but there no sign of anything via the serial port or on screen

Try a few different versions of dreamup. A google search should yield a few results.

I would imagine the bootloader is the same for cable and satellite versions but obviously I could be wrong.

check all the conection behind the box m8, there may be loose or not conected properly, then switch the box off from the plug, wait few seconds and re start. if it does not work re flash.

Ive been through the obvious with the power on / off etc. the problem is I cant flash it as it doesnt show in DreamUp. I have a 500s myself and this picks up OK so I know the com port / null modem cable / DreamUp version is working. I suspect its going to need a JTAG operation but have never done one before and most of the guides relate to the 500s not the 500c. i suppose I cant make it any worse if they are different, its bust already !!

Are you getting the LED light on when you switch it on ?

if not, i would recommend borrowing a power cable of a friend and try that.

sounds like it could be the power supply to me.

If you get the green light on LED, good chance your PC will be able to communicate with it, so you can be able to flash it with Dream up, and a null modem cable.

try taking the cable out and putting the jumper on, then try dream up.....like in this thread here How to JTAG a DM500 - Page 5

its got exactly same symptoms as previos post

it all lights up as it should .. but dreambox will not connect when its powered up

dont do the jtag, just try putting the jumper on then flashing with dreamup. I had something similar to you guys and i tried allsorts and nearly give up until I read that in the thread.cant remember exactly, but by trying to flash with the jumper it either flashed straight away or after trying to flash with the jumper i then removed the jumper and then found the box would communicate in hyperterminal so Ithen flashed it using dreamup. just have a play

Try a different version of dreamup.

you need to get your own jumper, like from the back of a harddrive,old motherboard or something

but still no joy !! have tried all suggestions still cannot detect box in dreamup
have tried man different versions as well
is there an ethernet way to do this? or is my last resort jtag !!!!!!
