DM800 How to setup Sata HDD with DM800HD?

    Hi all,

I am going to setup a SATA HDD for recording of my DM800HD.

Please advice which type of HDD should i buy? HDD got many type like ESATA, SATA, Serial ATA? How should i draw extra power for the HDD. It seem like DM800 doesnt has extra power connector for HDD. I am confused, as the package come with a cable for sata to serial ATA with molex connector.

Use the supplied cable as shown in the picture above. The connector with red, black and yellow is the one supplying the power for the hdd and only use 2.5" hdd to fit in the cramp space of the dm800.

Although in the network mountpoint manager it has an option to say "use as replacement HDD", I have tried all the popular images for this box and also never got it to show in the storage devices list.

However, I do use my network mount (on my NAS) as a path for all recordings and other data like crossepg etc, and it works perfectly fine.

The only reason I can see somebody for needing an internal hdd is for recordings of shows (if they don't have a networked resource they can save into instead) as a medium sized USB memory stick is more than enough as a local HDD replacement for things like plugins and plugin data.

If you want some advice how to set up a mount point for storing records to see my post here:

              normally cause setting issue

              1) IP address
              2) dir path
              3) user and pwd
              4) set CIFS ( like what VirtuallyMore say )

for my case CIFS or NFS will work on my synology nas

If you already have a USB HDD, might as well use it than getting a new HDD.

The process may not be 100% plug & play, it depends on the image, it may requires some manual installation. It should be easy if you know unix/linux command.
