DOn't Know Where To Post This - VM Issue

    Okay here goes

I have my 500c's running fine, I also have Pace box that is fine.

I want to join VM for broadband and am not a customer at the moment. Should I look elsewhere. Can the egineer work out whats going on or am I being paranoid.

uplug your DM500C and pace box aswell as any other cables that should no be there, then disconnect the feed from the little brown or grey box on the outside of your wall.

then once hes been just put your boxes back

No doubt they'll probably try to sell you a TV package too, just say you're with Sky but you want a decent broadband connection and your phone line isn't up to it.

The engineer will probably try to sell you a dodgy box when he installs it .

If you leave the line connected but take away all your boxes, they might have a record that it's still connected and simply send you the modem in the post.

When signing up just tell them you want to self install, they gave me credit on my account for it.

Well I told them my neighbour recommended me so I got ?30 reduction and my neighbour got ?30 reduction too. I'm just going to direct the engineer into the room I want it set up (which is the only room in the house that has no TV)

My concern is that when they see 4 cables on the house side of the splitter they might suspect something. However I might just remove the splitter prior to install and plead ignorance.

It's probably not a good idea to have cables sprawled about your house when they come. If there's a splitter screwed to the wall, just say the previous owners had it installed and it's never been used.

I'm actually going to tell the engineer's that I'm renting the property and can they please be very careful as the Landlord has already starting legal action against another company (I havn't thought which one yet) that came into the house and did some alterations at my request. Yes I will be sensible and pretty much direct them straight into the room I want the connection (it's the first room in my house). I think there is already a point there. Do they use the same connector for broadband that I use for TV or is it different in any way. If it is just a question of plugging the router in to my PC and then running a cable from router to VM terminal I can do that. Will they allow me to self install?

the broadband and cable connections are the same , you can have a modem and receiver on the same feed.

Ask if they can send you the modem as you work dodgy shifts and cant gaurantee someone to be in, they will send it to you .

If you have to let them in remove all cables and splitters as they are not stupid and might be looking for that kind of thing.

I've tried to organise self install, but they say not possible as a new customer. Although I know their records do show there has been a feed before (that was with C&W though so I'm unsure where they get that info from).

I'll just have to be careful.

They are senbding me a Netgear wireless router and my experience with Netgear gear is that they seem to produce mediocre stuff. Can anyone recommend a good wireless router for cable (I use Zoom X6 for ADSL) and am happy with it.
