My friends dreambox 500c was working perfect and is only a couple of months old. Yesterday she tried to watch football but although at bottom of screen it shows the chanel etc and whats on after a couple of seconds screen goes black, she can only get free chanels at tyhe mo. tried the blue button to turn evocam of and back on and also tried to rescan using bruteforce but still the same. Does this mean the box needs a new image put on etc and if so can some-one kindly point me in the right direction

if your pressing blue and evocamd is on then yes it looks as tho you need a new flash,however if you or your friend would have trouble doing that then you could enter the codes by hand.first download and install bigmaq toolbar(you will then see bigmaq at the top of your screen when you click on internet,then click on the big key and a little box appears click the up or down arrows to find your provider ntl virgin etc)to input codes by hand,press yellow,press tuxbox,on var dir press ok,on keys dir press ok,(highlight keyslist.txt,do not press ok)on keyslist.txt type number 4 on your remote.now your code screen should be on screen.you may have many lines of code on screen,but you only need to alter 2 lines.here is an example of what you should see(note this is not a real code and will not work,for example purposes only)n5401 00 aabbccddeeff1122,this is one example(you may have to change n5401,just enter your provider id)next on the code line that matches closest to the new code on bigmaq scroll to it and press ok this line will now become big and you can enter new codes by moving left to right and entering new code(numbers or easy just type them in,letters work like on your phone when texting,there will be help at the bottom of the screen)now assuming all is ok with this line you need to enter codes in one more line(note on bigmaq ,codes start with 00 or 01 see above n5401 00 so the first code you entered will start with 00 on bigmaq and say 00 on line of code on screen,so now we enter codes in 01 code line)same process as above,when your happy that the code lines are changed correctly and provider id and codes are correct press exit,on screen will say press red to save so press red,then exit again and press red again to save and exit back to tv channels.now one final ,thing press menu look for shutdown and reboot(your box may only say shutdown this is ok)press ok on shutdown and box should reboot its self,if not just switch it back on ,then go to say sky sports and all should be working.i know it sounds a bit tricky but when you do it once or twice its a walk in the park.good luck mate.

have a read here mate - flash the box and it will resolve your problems at least for the minute.
input the keys manually if need be to get you up and running but you should learn how to do this it will save you big time in the long run. if you need help post back.Comment
