DM500 Help with getting Dreambox working again

    Hi guys,

Around 6-7 months ago my Dreambox 500C stopped working, from reading up on a few forums it seemed that I needed new keys.

I ended up installing a new image (Gemini - which is still currently on there). Unfortunately this was the furthest I got and it's been sat collecting dust ever since.

I'd love to get it back up and running but i'll be honest and admit i'm a bit clueless when it comes to this sorta stuff! Is there an idiots guide out there to what needs to be done?

I've switched it back on tonight and when I go to the Transponder Scan, it always comes back saying nothing found. I've got a feeling the frequencies etc are incorrect, would I be able to to update these to the correct ones and go from there?

Or do I have to install a new image etc?

Really don't have a clue what i'm doing!

    Thanks in advance!

You might want to get rid of the Gemini Images first & download DK 1.1 - just in case you box is a clone:
Digital Kaos - Downloads - Images

You'll find all the guides you need here:
Digital Kaos - Downloads - Guides

Once you have DK 1.1 you can do a scan on your local transponder & you should be good to go

edit: cgscott beat me to it :P

If that's a serial cable then yeah.

OK i've managed to successfully flash my box and load up the DK v1.1 image. It said everything went on fine, I disconnected and rebooted the dreambox hoping to move onto the transponder scan, but all I get is the Digital Kaos image load, then disaapear for a few mins, then it comes back on, then goes again. Pressing buttons on the remote dosen't have an effect.

            Help!

Should be ok thats how the image boots up.

If you dont get anything from the remote at all i suggest you flash again.

Which method did you use to flash?

                DreamUp with a serial cable.

Think I know what the problem was - I did the flash with my scart cable still in, remember reading ages ago that the only cable to have in when flashing is the serial/null. Did that and it seems to have worked ok, i'm just doing a transponder scan at the moment and it seems to be picking everything up.

Fingers crossed for the next bit!

OK i've got all the channels listed now, I can't view any because I guess I need to this next bit first?

Hi, transponder scan was fine and i've got a fair few channels listed now. They don't show though so i'm guessing I need to do this next bit.

press the Yellow Button and you will see Kaos Panel, select 2 Manager Suite, select Addon Manager then select Server DK Addons, then select Plugins,(Router Required) then select Dreambox Key Editor and press Blue button this will now install the Dreambox Key Editor..
I can see the Addon Manager option, however when I go to Server: DK Addons I get the following message:

"Couldn't resole host. The given remote host was not resolved".

The box is connected to my router at the moment, do I need to FTP in manually or something?

No need for keys in DK 1.1:

                    No Keys or Roms
This image is supplied without any keys or roms. It is a FTA image only!
But I did find that someone has uploaded these files which appear to work fine with this and any other image.

                    RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

Copy contents of Keys folder to /var/keys
Copy contents of Scce folder to /var/scce
                    Go to Sky Sports 1
Hold INFO for more than 3 secs to bring up EMU manager, press OK.
                    Wait.......

I've noticed on a couple of channels I get a message saying i'm using an unauthorized box and getting TV channels from Virgin Media is a crime...LOL :/

Thanks again guys for all your help, it's been greatly appreciated.

Argh, the picture is broken every few seconds on most channels!

It's only BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Five which seem to be OK.

I seem to remember having this problem before but only on 1-2 channels, and if I switched channels then went back it was usually fine. Tried the same and also rebooting the box but nothing.

                          Any ideas?

Sounds like a signal problem. Make sure that your signal cable is firmly screwed in at the back & make sure when you're scanning for channels you choose your local transponder (if it's in the list).

If all else fails, try another brute force scan. Also, the message about the non-standard equiptment is just a broadcast channel that can only be found via 3rd party boxes (Dreambox, etc.) Just ignore it
