    Faulty dm500c

    hey all

    i've got a ~~~~ed dm500c

the yellow/green LED on the transformer is flashing and when i tried an ambit psu in it smoke came out of the box
i opened it up and there is a capacitor blew on the psu part of the box also the chips at L404 and L405 look dodgy i'll post pics later

but does anyone know how to fix this box?

    thanks in advance

Doesn't sound good. You will ultimately need to find the source of the problem. Could be the cap, could be the chips. The chips could be blown as a result of the cap blowing. There's usually a diode near the power input that stops current surging to components. Pics would be good but I doubt you will get ics to replace the blown ones. And they'll be surface mount so you'll need special soldering equipment to replace them.

I'd cut my losses and get a new one.

That's a shame, do you know if it was a legit or clone box mate? - not that it makes any difference, just wondering.

when i first got the box the greed LED on the trasformer was flashing and the wee red light on the front of the box was solid no matter what i done i could get anything out of the box

now i tried a psu from an ambit and smoke started coming out the box so i quickly took that psu out

inside the box there is a capacitor that has blown, i handed this to an electrician and he says the diode and capacitor need replaced but if its touched the IC boards i'm ~~~~ed

but looking at it more closely 2 chips next to the diode are out of place now would i need to replace them aswell?

open up the box, get an analog meter n have a quick check especially the semiconductor, diode, zener diode and the caps....There should be not much Power cct in the DM500s as the whole PSU is actually in the adapter it self which giving regulated 12V DC to the DM500. Power cct is easy to fix but not the tuner or processor side.
