How do you record tv to your computer via vlc?

the title says it all, please give step by step instructions, just wanna record tv from my dreambox which is streamed to my pc, is there also any way that i could stream it to my ps3? any help apprechiated, thanks.

with tv plugged into pc
open vlc, click Media on the top left menu dropdown, select "open capture device"

Look in the list and try some of the entires, you should find your tv there somwhere.
