    DM500 - Advice on Repair

The DM500C box I just bought seems to be faulty, I can't flash it, it keeps hanging at "upload completed, waiting for acknowledge". Read on another thread that I have to leave it overnight, tried that and it didn't work.

Can anybody here advice on where is the best place to repair it and what the rough cost would be, or if it's better to just send back to supplier. Thanks.

Are u using the usb adapter? It could be the likely problem. What about try flashing using telnet method.

I'm using a null modem cable with an Aten USB adapter. I'm pretty sure the cable is fine because I just flashed another box yesterday and that went smoothly without any problems.

I suspect that the new box I purchased was somehow damaged in transit, because it's been giving me all kinds of problems like ghosting and distorted images, losing all SGSH channels, or working for 5-10 minutes then suddenly hanging. On top of all this I can't flash it.

I could try telnet but I have no idea how to do that. If you would kindly point me to a detailed tutorial I could give it a shot. Thanks.

EDIT: Ok so I read up some stuff and installed FlashFXP, tried to connect with username:root/password:dreambox on port 21 (also tried port 12 and 14) and kept getting connection failed. I tried all the IPs identified by Angry IP and got a connection failed with all of them. Perhaps the username/pass is not default as I've read in some threads. Looks like this rules out telnet as well.

Tried for 3 days still can't flash with null cable or telnet. Can somebody tell me where I can get it fixed in SG cheaply? Sending back to the supplier seems too expensive. Thanks.

            dismantle the box, very easy
just a few screws at the rear. once you dismantle all the screws behind which is holding to the motherboard, you can remove the board easily.

As for the front panel, its attach like a clip. you just need to figure out a bit.
sending only the board back using registered postage with bubble envelope cost around $10 or less. Bubble envelope can buy from the post office counter.
Bear in mind, the waiting time to and fro will be about 1 to 1.5 month.
Don't spend money on DHL unless really necessary. Most importantly, get the seller to acknowledge that he/she will do an exchange for you, then you proceed to sent back.

Alternatively, you can send back using normal air, and return by DHL which you got to bear the freight charges. You see which is best for you and discuss with your seller.
