DM500C SG Newbie needs help green light on but can't flash using Dreamup!

Hi, I have a rs232 cable (i presume its the null modem cable, same thing right??) and i want to flash my bricked DM500C box. I power on can see the green light lit up but unable to detect the com port when connect to PC running Dreamup (i tried many different versions). It is always stuck at "Connection prepared, now switch on the dreambox!". I tried all the com ports listed (COM1, COM4, COM6) on an old laptop, also tried on a desktop PC all the com ports but i still can't get connected!!

    WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Help me please, all the masters and gurus out there! Been meddling with this for sleepless nites and still not yet recovered!!!

Problem lies with yr cable. Get the null cable.

RS232 and null modem cable is not the same. The wires are crossed in the null modem cable. Go to Sim Lim Tower and look for it in B1. You can get it for as cheap as $4.

Thanks alot guys! Problem solved! Yes turned out that its the cable fault!! The cable i using was a straight through serial cable, after i switch the pins on one end of the cable (to get a null modem cable), i was able to flash using dreamup without any problems!

You could read up this The Difference Between a Null Modem and Straight Through Serial Cable - National Instruments article to understand the difference btw null modem cable and straight through serial cable as they TOTALLY LOOKS THE SAME from OUTSIDE (inside the contact points of the pins are different).

Hope this helps for those out there experiencing similar problem!
