Try downloading the latest cables.xml file from DK and copying that to your var/etc folder on the dm500 and then doing a full scan.

        Select a working channel.

        Press Menu
        (5) Setup
        (2) Service Searching
        (2) Manual Transponder Scan

Use the remote to select :
        Inv
        network search

Then press Green to start the scan.

Wait about 10 minutes for it to finish.

Bring up the "All services" list (Press OK, RED)

Scroll to the top of the list, visit each channel listed before the "A" channels. They will all have strange naming.

Even if there is no picture stay on that channel and bring up the "All services" list. Wait until it updates.

Repeat this until their are no more strange named channels at the top of the All services list.

The enigma dreambox channel/transponder software regularly screws up when it comes to channel listings. Not sure why. I think it is because VirginMedia is a closed network and so they do not have to follow the DVB standards. I do know several patches have to be applied to the base code for it to work with VirginMedia. It is possible these patches are now out of date?

Normally every transponder contains the information about all other transponders on the network and either their channel details or details on how to get the channel info. This makes it very easy for the software to build up a channel list once it has found one transponder.

For whatever reason the VirginMedia structure is incomplete / different from what the current software expects.

For example in my region (using the DW2.1 image) the transponder which contains:

            Alibi
            British Eurosport
            Eden
            G.O.L.D.
            God Channel
            Home
            Nightly Television X
            Turner Classic Movies
            Yesterday

Cannot be found by using a "network search" from any other transponder. I have to manually enter the transponder frequency and perform a manual scan to find these channels.

Switching to those channels lets the software read the PAT/PMT table for that transponder. Usually it is different to the data obtained from the other transponders and contains accurate channel information for that transponder. The dreambox software parses the new data and fills in the blanks including finding new channels and renaming previously identified channels.
