    Bruteforce scan on DK Image

    Hi all,

I've had the DK 1.1 Image (I'm pretty sure its 1.1) working for ages now, but a couple of the Sky (Action etc.) have been renamed to "Removed Service" in my favourites after a scan (I was bored) can I get them back with a Bruteforce scan, and if so, how do I get the Bruteforce option into the DK 1.1 image?

    Thanks

Bruteforce option is already in DK1.1. Just goto Automatic Transponder scan, and select BruteForce for UK

That could be due to one of two reasons:

      1) That channel was not found during the search due to a tuning error.
      2) That channel has moved to a different transponder frequency / PID

To fix (1) just select "Removed Service" if you get a picture, wait for a while and eventually the PMT/PAT tables will get updated and the channel name will return. If you reboot your box from the menu (not turn off) it will store the data.

If there is nothing on a "Removed Service" entry in your bouquets (favourites) it means it has moved. To fix (2) you'll have to re-add the channel from the "All services list". Why? The information in your bouquets is static but in real life the channels are dynamic. They move around from time to time. VirginMedia have just started to move around some of the channels between transponders and when they do that you have to update your bouquets.

If (2) is the cause of the "Removed Service" then you cannot get them back in your bouquets with any type of scan. You have to delete them and re-add them from the "All services" list.

If the channel is missing from the "All services" list you can try to find it using a new automatic scan. If the channel is still missing, check at the top of the list, before the channels starting with "A". If you see channels with a strange name, select them and wait a few minutes (even if there is no picture) and bring up the "All services" list. It should update and missing channels get added to your list. Repeat with all of those strangely named channels until they are all gone.

When you are done Sky (Action etc.) can be re-added to your bouquets (favourites)

VM have been moving some channels arouns so a brute force scan should pick up the lost ones again.

These channels have been swapped to a different transponder,

            sky reallty
            sky really2
            sentanta 1 and 2
            rangers tv

Is Brute force the right choice? I thought it is solely for people who do not know what network they are on. Symbol rate, frequencies etc.

I thought that if you know your Symbol rate (i.e. ex NTL or ex CW/Telewest) there was no advantage of Brute Force over a cable auto scan?

Except Brute Force will take 10x longer?

Not that bad then, 2x longer than regular cable scan.

Great result - the bruteforce option sorted it. I just hadn't looked at the bottom of the list - I figured it was just an alphabetical list

Well, yeah, but its an alphabetical list with things like "bruteforce" at the end...
