It is freezing on you now and again? Or there is just nothing there??

If it is the latter, then it is just these channels have moved to a different transponder.

VM are shuffling around a lot of their channels ATM.

Go to a channel that is working.

Press Menu, Setup, Searching, Manual scan.

          Tick the INV box
          Tick the network scan box
          Press scan and wait

When it has finished, if e4 and film4 and all the others are not in your "ALL SERVICES" list, go to the top, above the channels starting with A and if there are some oddly named channels, select them (even if there is no picture) and then bring up the "ALL SERVICES" list and wait a few minutes for it to automatically update.

Do this for each of the strangely named channels until there are non left.

Your missing channels should now be part of the "ALL SERVICES" list and you can add them to your bouquets (favourites)

sounds like a signal issue and they have moved the channels to a weaker transponder you are unable to pick up properly try not using any splitters (if you do)and try again or get another booster argos do money back if it dont work

They are always listed at the top of the list, above the A's. They are usually there straight after a search. Once one of these channels is selected, the software (given time) updates the list and they get "absorbed" into the list under their real name (with the ! next to them indicating a newly found channel)

Erm, what you are saying doesn't make sense... please explain.

Very strange. The only thing I can think of is you ask a friend who has a box in your area to give you the transponder frequency of one of your missing channels.

You then do a manual search, enter the transponder frequency manually, check for lock & sync if they do not show, click INV tickbox, then perform manual scan. That will add all the channels on that transponder.

If you had them stored in a bouquet (favourites) they will now appear as "removed service" if you just select that channel, if it is still working and not BLANK (i.e. the channel has not moved to a different transponder) then just leave the channel on for a few minutes and the software will scan that transponder in the background and add all channels it finds to your services lists (and update bouquets)

That answer is given over an over again in dreambox forums and I don't think it is true. My cloned box couldn't find two transponders with a manual network scan but enter the transponder frequency and it has 97% SNR and 36% AGC which is almost as good as it can get.

A mixture of cloned boxes (with different tuners not 100% backwards compatible) and (unavoidably) crap (UK cable patched enigma) firmware.

maybe it is all these things, i have a decent booster (yellow brick) and I have had my box for a while without any problems. I re-flashed today, and re-scanned, so like i said, i dont know whats going on. thanks for all your suggestions.

alas. i never made bouquets. So the channels are not showing up as removed in the main list either.

My cloned box doesn't find anything with any automatic search, including Brute Force, always been the same with DW1.6 through to DW2.1. It just takes 10 minutes and then says it cannot find any transponder lock. Crazy

Made it very difficult to get started, I had to ask someone for a transponder frequency in my area and do a manual network scan.

I know regularly back up my services list & bouquets to my PC.

P.S. I was editing my last post as you replied

                          allright alex.

my box always finds a transponder and locks etc, its just not coming up with any new channels. I will have to do what you suggested about finding a transponder frequency and doing a manual scan etc.

Diffo sounds like a signal problem. Those channels are weak here too.

What classifies as a "weak signal"? In terms of SNR, AGC, BER etc?

I favour it being a software problem. For me, channel scanning (in all enigma based firmware patched for the VM network) has always been dodgy.
