DM500C screwed by my stupidity...

Dear Gurus and Newbies,
I have been reading this forum for about 6 months trying to read and understand how the linux dvb box work. Went through a number of guides and have grown quite confident on what to do.

So I set off to purchase a null cable modem only to realize that my laptop does not have a com port. So I read again on the next best alternative, which is to ftp backup.img to tmp. I did a backup of my image as well as my keys and scce. What can possibly go wrong I said to myself. Just ftp, backup and copy image and key, flash, ftp keys and do some minor settings... BUT I WAS TOTALLY wrong....

First image i downloaded was " SGSH E1 500c" by hockheng. After extracting, i realize there is no *.img files.. so i guess ill need to download another image and I chose "DK v1.1".. flashed successfully, ftp magic files, made it trhough till scan for transponders and I was clueless..

So i thought, lets look for a specific image for my provider, and I found the one by SGDVB and happily downloaded it without reading the disclaimer (ftp password has been changed). Flashed it and now Im stuck with the PLI JADE screen. I press the Yellow button and proceed to update keys and channel but download fail.


What shoud I do next?

Go ahead and mock my stupidity. I shoulnt fix what is not broken..

Since u already make a backup of yr working image and key files, there is nothing to worry. Just do a reflash with dreamup and null cable.

Hi ypvs125, the problem is I do not have a PC with com ports. Will need to go and purchase the USB adpter ..

Yes u got to buy the usb adapter if yr pc do not have a com ports but usb adapter can be unreliable at times.

Thanks for the asdvice but to be on the safe side, ill be gg over to my bros place to use his tower PC.

Anyway, can you kindly advice me which image you are using.. I would like to try out other image as mine often hangs.. ( sometime hangs and sometimes don't)

Me uses Hockheng files. the latest image from here
Do remember to back up your scce / keys before reflash.

Pls note image is not very important, it is learning to update yr bouquet that is more interesting. I used the PLi Gemini since 2011 but only update bouquet since. There is no change of keys since Feb2011, why flash with new images??

It is better to add plugins and addons to experiment with Dreambox than changing image every other week/month.

Even in N3, nothing new, still the same CCcam2.14 and Mg camd 1.35 and + some others which r just addons, not reflashing image.

But prefer to use 800series bcos of HD avlb.

dont waste time on DM500C, is run by erase prom chip everydown and then have to reflash img file .upgrade to HD set which can receive BPL channel and any problem just do factory default setting.

my DM 500C is down too. I reflashed with new images but cannot scan for even a single channel. it keep having error "All known transponder have been tried, but no lock was possible. Sigh! been reading up, but still cannot find a solution to it..

Find those sg configured images and skip the scanning. U will need cables.xml to search for the frequency if flashing raw image.

hey ypvs! Where can i get sg configured images? i tried reflashing with 3-4 images but non worked! cables.xml? what is it about? Please advise me.. much appreciated!

non will work if you dont have the keys and scce
Please see the instructions before you flash. If nobody give you the key and scce, your box will be in the storeroom forever.

Preconfigured image means = image for SG with cam and channels installed.
(Keys and scce not included as per forum rules)

You are not doing flashing, u are in setup, in transponder mode to scan for new channel ?
dont play with transponder very troublesome.sometime i am lost in the transponder.
can u flash with pli jade img.file is very friendly user later u just plug in lan cable just do on line channel update, key update.
