    DM500 Segmentation Problem -> DM500c not responding

    Hi folks.

    Similar to this issue here: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...0&postcount=10

    I was flashing dw2.1 onto my box via a combination of ftp and telnet using the following command, which i'm sure you all know:

    "cd /tmp && /bin/eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp dw21.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot"

    Now, after the erase part was complete, the telnet message was "Segmentation Error" or something like that. It didn't get on to the flashing part. On rebooting the box, i now have a black screen, unresponsive remote, but the green light on the front is solid. There's no turning this off. There's no telnetting into the box on the previous IP address with root/dreambox. There's no connectivity at all via ftp. Although, i can't remember what the default IP address is. (like master/factory default i mean).

    The box was working 100% - but it seems that dw2.1 wasn't liked!!

    Any idea how to gain connection back? I don't have a null-modem cable, i've only ever connected to dreamboxes via ethernet and used telnet/ftp to do the biz. Never had this happen to any of my previous boxes.

    Any help would be appreciated.

      A segmentation fault can mean anything and without the full error we don't really know what it was.

      But....changes are it's completed the first 2 parts of the command and failed on the last, i.e. it's managed to change into the /tmp folder and it's managed to erase the flash but failed copying over the new one. At that point, you were still connected to the box and you could have initiated the copy command to try again but since you've rebooted the box, there's no image on it now so nothing will come up.

      I'm afraid your only option is dreamup and a null modem cable.

      Here's one for ?1.69 from ebay.

      If you want it sooner and are going to go somewhere like Maplin, then make sure you get a null modem cable and not a serial or rs232 cable. Although they look the same, they're wired differently and only a null modem cable will work,

        Thanks to you both. Do you know how long i've been working with dreamboxes and never had to use a null modem cable hehehe. I'm gutted.

        I figured that i had pretty much ~~~~ed it up by rebooting a little early. One of those 'i wish i hadn't done that' moments.

          It's probably been that the filename of the image didn't match the filename in the command. I've done it before myself, just make sure they match and paste the command again.
