How to tell Image file for Compatible Box vs Geniune ones.

I had an episodes when I downloaded a copy of Dream-Elite v4.0 image and applied on my DM800 and boy did I in for a big surprise!!!

When the box booted up from the upgrade, I got "No CA FOUND and Error message when booting up" and I couldn't go forward, it just froze there for good. I had resolved it of cos by loading back to my original backup with tons of steps to follow plus I had created with my magic files & image backed up too. But that took me 2 hours (Serial restore my image) and almost panic or lost as to how to recover it. Imaging no DHCP from cold power ON and couldn't FTP into the box and no web interface, that will definitely freaked you out. Ha ha.

So my question to the Gurus here, how to determine if the image is meant for the compatible boxes apart from the original ones! Please advise us then. Appreciate your help on this. Cheers

What i am about to share, i stand to be corrected as i am not a gurru/master/shifu yet. So here goes:

Believe that our clones DM boxes uses wither the SIm2 or Ferrari Sim or the Sunray Sim hence if you download the images from the original sites like OpenPli.org and Dream-elite.net, these would not work as they require the original SIm called AP8 (or something like that) used in the orignal DM boxes.

Usually the clones have the word Sim2 in the name of the NFI file hence you should be able to use it.

I have tried the following image OpenPLI.2.1.800SE.Sim2.SSL84b.Media Portal IPTV Special By Ferret.nfi and it works. eventhough they are meant for satellites. Believe the tuner type is not so important (Cable vs Sat) but rather the Sim card used. Believe it or not i open my 800se and notices there is a actual Sim card similar to the one we use on our mobile phone.

However, to enjoy this UK satellite image, i had to:

1. Flash it using the web browser method
2. after re-booting, delete away the sat bouquet
3. transfer out little red dot bouquets over via Dreamedit
3. and not forgetting to install or turn on the mgcamd (use 1.31 1.35 or 1.38) as in UK sat environment they like to use ccam
4. finally also the magician files

I think you are detailed enough as I do noticed that the original files does not contain any SSL84b (or something like that) or Sim201. That is why I got a bump when I uploaded the original file and got the No CA. Believe me it is no laughing matter when I had to spend more time to rectify the issue and gain back control on the box so that I have a chance to upload back the old firmware and re-upload the latest with all the necessary magic files etc.

I am still monitoring when will the Newnigma 4.04 or OpenPli 3.0/4.0 find its way into Sim2.1/SSL84b images.

I also noticed that some if these images has the word OE1.6 as oppose to OE2.0. I only know the oe1.6 images work for the 800se. Not sure what oe2.0 is for.

Does it really matters between the OE1.6 and 2.0! Features wise any major difference or enhancement in which we have to really careful in!

Are you currently using Newnigma2 v3.3.2-dm800? I used to love Newnigma 2 till someone tempted me to use Dream-Elite so played with v3.0 and now the v4.0 with the Sim201 from a hard bump that is.. (Dream-Elite-dm800-4.0-v001r003) I don't really know why there is a v001r003 but I guess this is some of the revision made to improve the performance or functionality of some sort. I may for one day use back Newnigma2 as that was what it came with when I purchased my DM800 actually. ha ha
