    DM500 Continually rebooting

flashed my Dreambox just now (via telnet).. something seems to have went wrong though! ARGHHH.. It now just seems to want to continually reboot??

It gets as far as showing me the DK logo (web address, blue circle and green line through it) but then the screen goes black and then reboots (this happens continually)...

I'm not too sure what went wrong as I'm pretty sure I did it correctly (obviously not though! LOL!) -I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and how it was fixed??

I'm guessing a reflash with rs232 null modem cable (which should be arriving tomorrow) - but wanted to confirm before I make it any worse! - also with it continually rebooting will reflashing with RS232 cable work? i.e. does it interrupt the boot to flash or would this indicate I have a more serious problem??

seems to be exactly the same symptoms I have - so I'll flash with dreamup and null modem cable tomorrow..

LOL!!!.. thanks! - I take it that the null modem will stop the box from rebooting whilst it flashes and it's not (fingers crossed) quite a lost case yet??

Can you not hold in the poewr button when inserting the power lead which should let you ftp into it & flash another image.

nope.. tried that already... it lets me connect for a few seconds.. then auto disconnects.. when I connected it direct to the router I was able to transfer an image over to the tmp folder.. but of course once it reboots it looses the image as it's in volatile memory...

When you insert the power you are still holding the power button until the leds stop flashing quickly? about 15sec

are you talking about the led on the front? (i.e. power led) or the leds on the pcb inside which show network activity??

when I plug the power in whilst holding the power button down, the green led lights up as soon as the power is on and remains solid.. when I look through the grill/slots on the top I can see 2 green leds light, then a third lights and flashes slowly then they go out and the box reboots... ??

to clarify.. do you mean the power button the remote or the box itself??

the led on the front of the box should start flashing quickly then slowly then you should be able to connect.

despdan - thanks very much for your help!!!

I've now managed to reflash it and its flashed successfully.. when I inserted the power cable.. I held down the power button on the remote and this then allowed me to flash the DK 1.1 image on it through FlashWizard PRO.. it's now just booted up and all seems well!!

                        thanks again for your help!

nice job, have not had to use that method but will try and remember it. i think we need to make tut of things to try when your box is not playing ball.....
