can i ftp files to my dm500c using one of these cables and a pc with no internet connection

as long as it is a crossover cable and not a standard rj45.
there are different connections on the crossover, which allows the transfer of data from pc to box. you can use a standard rj45 if you are going through a router first

Just make sure there are configured for the same subnet address... Use static addressing and not DHCP if its a direct xover cable and not via a router. - For example:
i.e) PC IP - 192.168.0.100
db IP - 192.168.0.200
Both same subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
try and ping from PC to db via command prompt then...Comment
