    DM500 or DM600?

    Hi,

Other than the PVR/HDD functionality, is there any other reason to opt for the 600 over the 500? Conversely, is there any reason to stick with the 500 (seems there is more downloads available for this model?) The cost is not an issue....

    TIA

The dm600 has a larger RAM , better tuner and in the original dm600 you can swap the tuner from sat to cable or vice versa. There is a lot of support for the dm600 and most of waht applies to the dm500 will usually apply to the dm600. I have a clone dm600S and a sat an original dm600C, in the clone the tuner ia fixed. As you have already said it has PVR functionality and in my opinion a far better box than the dm500 if cost is not an issue.

must agree wit curious, the 500 is a bulletproof little box and good for a
new user but the 600 is way better, ive got an original and tbh id recommend
u have a little bit of experience first before u get one

Thanks for all the replies. I think the DM600 may win me over purely for it's PVR capabilities. Although I know the DM500 can record to NAS etc, I like the idea of being able to use it as a stand-alone device if need be.

Looking around, as with all Dreamboxes, they are elusive when it come to buying from a UK supplier. I have found this which I believe is a DM600 clone? Can anyone confirm this for me before I jump face first into the world of Dreambox?

        Thanks,
        mds

EDIT: There are dozens of "home brew" type images available for the 500C. Will these work on the 600C or are the model specific?

I got my orginal dm600 from Satstore who is an authorised UK dealer. Looking at the price from the link you have posted I would say that it is clone. You cannot use dm500 image on a dm600 dreambox. I have an original and a clone dm600 and they both work fine, the only difference being is that the tuner on the clone is fixed.

no satisfaction from the sellers, a little extra for an original from satstore and u will

OEM FTA Cable Receiver PVR DVB600

              Hi There

I have just bought a OEM FTA Cable Receiver PVR DVB600 from Linuxsat, from what I can see these are exactly the same as a DM600 apart from the outer case.

Has anyone had any experience with these if so are they any good, I have been useing my old faithfull Dbox2 for the past 5 years and decided it was time for a change.

My friend has a DM600 pvr so will I be able to flash a backup image from his to mine so I dont have to start setting up the Bouquets.

              Cheers

              Fermec

You can flash your friends backup to your dm600.

Ok I have received the PVR DVB600 exelent service next day delivery and also free delivery with orders over ?50.

Anyway I did manage to flash my mate image onto the box and it works great, Also put a 80gig 2.5" hard drive in and that works great, all in all it is a DM600 but with a different shell it is about the size of a video case but packes a mighty punch.

Very impressed with the box and the service from linuxsat.
