DM500 What do you with yours? (other than TV!)

I keep reading how "there's more to a Dreambox than TV", so, what do else do you with yours?

I stream videos from pc through mines. I also record from the tv to my pc.

I also play all my mp3 music through it.

Why what you do with yours?

Haven't got one (yet). Just weighing up the options!

Well they are lot more versatile than most of the boxes on the market.

I recommend them. But thats just my opinion.

        Other will disagree.

I currently have mine integrated into Windows 7 Media Center using DVBLink for Dreambox. What a fantastic piece of kit! All the channels get seemlessly mixed in with my Freesat listings with full EPG so I can record as part of the Media Center setup.

He forgot to mention that only certain images are supported by DVBLink which somewhat limits your freedom.

For UK DVB-C users I think that means one unsupported 3rd party port of PLi Jade 2

I have it working with DK1.1 without too many issues...

                    Oooo....

Did you have to install anything or did DK1.1 include DVBLink out of the box?

Hmmm... The homepage states : "Only Dreamboxes running PLi, Nabilosat or Gemini images are supported"

If it works with DK1.1, how does it communicate? Which streaming protocol does it use?

Is DVBLink for Dreambox a commercial product? Or is someone trying to cash in on an open-sauce bit of software?

The software that does the work on the PC is a commercial product. I am only testing the 30 day trial at the moment.

I'm sorry I am not technical enough to answer your questions about streaming protocols but I assume it works with DK1.1 because it is sufficiently similar to the supported images?

I will be trying out an officially supported image to see if there is stability improvements. With DK1.1 most channels stream without problems (only the occassional stutter of pixellation) but some stutter like mad and are pretty distracting.

Sorry if this discussion has hijacked this thread, it was not my intention.
