    JTAG a question (500)

Just a quick question guys as i am researching this atm

I understand about the building of the cable but im curious whether this would have worked?

I came across this img whilst i was surfing

    RS232 DB9 to DB25 converter

Would this have worked instead of soldering the cable onto the board? if it did you could use the DB9 connecter in the dreambox.
Im assuming the cable legth resistance would be different so maybe not.

And just to help me can someone post the correct sequence of events?, every where i look there is different answers.

atm from several places the rough set i have is

    check your printer port setup
u have to have bi directional i think?

make the cable with the 100 ohms resistors and solder it on the board

and use timing to power the box at the same tme you start jtag windows proggie?

but im aware there needs to be some sort of bootloader, where does this fit into the sequence

and the phillips / alps / cable tuners are they in the images or a seperate download?
plus how do we find out which one we have or need

i did some messing with telnet and the cat /proc/bus/dreambox command and i noticed phillips in the window ( nim = Phillips -C)
So im assuming mine is phillips the image i use is a dw 1.6.5 but im looking to change to a PLI soon

Im aware you can change the Mac manually with the init script or the telnet method but is that the best way?

Anyway just a few thoughts i had there will be more im sure

ps dont just say read the tuts , i have been for nearly 2 days now

    Hi
Re-read the Tuts, it worked for me and lots of others so you must be missing something. The one below is all you need, it works fine, its in the download section. Wouldn't bother with rs232 connecting unless you are brave or have a spare box to experi with.

thx for reply jbvid but thats not what i meant

all i was asking was was it possible that way not whether i was doing it correctly

The answer ive been told is excert from a pm i had
the jtag procedure is aimed at specific points on the main board now by using your method going back through the rs232 port your not going direct to these points so therefore it wont work
So that question is answered at the end of the day i was just curious if it was possible that way.

And just to help me can someone post the correct sequence of events?, every where i look there is different answers.
