    Thinking ahead...

I love my 500c, best bit of kit i've bought in a long time. Am planning to get one of the new cable HD models as soon as they in the shops!

Am worried that the introduction of more HD channels will coincide with an n3 upgrade though.... It's been rumoured for a while now and things point to it happening, at some point.

My Q is if it does happen, how easy would it be to migrate to a satellite DB system to replace the lost services? I've never used a Sat system but would be willing to give it a try cos i reckon that n3 might be hard to bypass. In the short term anyway.

Anyone got any thoughts on what they'll do to cope with a serious change in the status quo?

    Tks

well it cost about ?40 to change the tuner in your dreambox and it costs nothing to alter your image, you will just need to do some readint when you decide to change over.. by the way the HD dreamboxes have been in the shops for a while... you will have to google them as Digital kaos does not sell any kit of course.. I place i looked at recently had DM800 at ?400 and DM8000 at ?900, they were genuine boxes, but i would not buy a clone or pay ?900...

Tks for the info mate, hadn't thought of changing the tuner!

If cable goes to n3 when the extra HD chans appear then i might give the sat scene a try -- could be years before cable is back up and running!

What is more important is what services are available for "free" on satellite??

Obviously there are no $ky channels which would be a bummer. Plus I imagine that a large number of channels have no english audio.

What about the other VM channels? Can they be found on satellite with english audio?

Can you get away with one dish or do you really need a steerable one to get some reasonable services?

There is a lot of premiership football available via satellite. The main spanish tv channels (their version of bbc1 etc) show a lot of live matches (with spanish commentary of course!). This is one of the reasons that VM have so few foreign channels -- we'd all be watching the footie for free (with five live on!).

most of the good stuff on sat has already gone to nag3, the last few packages left are rumored to move from n2 to n3 before the end of the year so its a waitin game until sometin else opens up

I was in Spain a few months ago watching Man Utd live on the box (ftv -- chan Espana 1).

Yeah, a lot are going n3 (worryingly for us!) but there is also a lot that is available if u just know which sat to access.
