Me is planning to replace sky multiroom with a pair of 500C's which arrived yest. No clones - paid the full wackeroonies.

I know what a serial cable is, linux CLI shouldn't be an issue if needed but where the bloomin heck do I start. I used to have cableTV from NTL couple of years ago. Connection is still there yo...

Dream Multimedia stopped making the dm500 a couple of years ago so what have is probably a clone. If you work your way through the RED stickies you will find everything you need to get your dm500 working.

Agreed. Limited stock so my feeling is they're the real deal. How can I verify anyway?

DMM only sell through authorised dealers so all you need to do is look up the dealer on the DMM web page. TBH the clones are almost as good as the 'real' dm500 and in some cases better than the original. If you have any doubts about the authenticity of your box than keep away from the Gemini images as they have tendency to kill the clone.

although i hear they have started to change the mac's on the clones recency

Would be nice if the box shipped with default IP AND dreamup.exe let us connect over the Ethernet port.

As it stands when dreamup.exe is launced the option to connect via IP is there but when an attempt is made, a COM connection error is displayed, so it's forcing you down the NULL Modem cable route...

oh well.. it's all part of the learning i suppose.

Connected up to cable and TV. Powered up and getting the following promtp after holding down the info button:

Evocamd 2.12 (with some skin at bottom of screen)
The background is globe with Digital-Kaos going printed around the top.

Am i all done or what's missing..?

Turn to S*Y SP1 wait till the channel clears and then you are done.
