DM500 Buying a db500 with image already help

Hi all.
I'm awaiting the arrival of my dreambox 500 black edition which apparently has commando 14.5 installed on it (from eBay).
Can someone tell me what steps I should take regarding any program's I should install on my PC , connecting , backing up etc.
I am completely new to this and appreciate any help.
