Sorry to Bogard the thread I just saw this here, my dm500c is doing the same. I'm in dublin on n*l cable and I only set up the box a couple of weeks ago and it was running fine up to thursday!
Ever since it freezes now and again and i have to plug out the power to get any response from it and restart the hypercam.
Im using DK 1.1 image, it seems to happen fairly randomly too.

yeah same here could be those nasty people from n@l ,or a software problem,it seem to go more often on the kids channels ,or the footie starting tomorrow and someone wants to spoil our fun

Most freezing occurs due to a bad signal causing the video decoder to crash. Then, due to poor software, a systemic software error happens which causes the box to lock.

Check your SNR (Signal to Noise ratio) on problematic channels. It should be 95% or higher.

If it is lower you need to check your cable from the box to the wall, perhaps get a variable attenuator or signal booster to help improve signal quality.

Of course re-flashing your box couldn't hurt either. Just make sure you know what you're doing and you have the latest "Magic Files" to put on afterwards.

There is always the chance that your box is slightly faulty and heat makes it fail. Try to keep it ventilated and do not put it ontop of anything that produces heat (i.e. DVD/VHS etc.)

ok thanks mate I'll check it out. Are all of these dm500 boxes clones now? I had a couple of 500t's there a few years back and there was problems with the clones back then. with overheating and tuners failing! Just wondering if it would be anything to do with that?!

this has also been happening to me and a mate who lives about a mile away we are both in cork
it only started a couple of days ago
signal is perfect on both boxes 97 39 0

I find it insteresting that you are all from Ireland...perhaos its your ntl which is having problems with weak signal which makes the box crash. I doubt its hardware problem for a numebr of reasons.
1. all from ireland.
2. all not from same supplier.
3. Boxes that have worked for month before have just started doing it like all the others.

I think Alexh is right in how you should try and resolve it. If it is ntl weak signal then I would wait a few days and it may streghten again.

all correct even with ligit boxes at the moment digital tiling weak or no signal ch**us are in the middle of revamping all of its structure ,leading to the change over to nag3 .i would wait a few days before flashing boxes try booster ,i am using both because i have 2 dream boxes dk image and dwemptyautoroll images signal gets weak mostly at night time around midnight

thanks mtv1, do you reckon the switch to N3 is imenent so?
I had heard that n*l were happy enough with N2 at the minute because when they did the switch from N1 to N2 they saw sales boom...i guess they're getting greedy and want everyone to pay for cable now...typical :-)

not eminent the way they work but expect alot of disturbance in my area they are replacing all the amps 2000 houses they are at it 4 weeks already and have 20% done i hope they only change to nag2
