DM500 Faulty Box -> Need some Techy Input ;)

It had to happen, one of these days i was going to get a hold of a box that wasn't working properly. I've probably bought/f@annied around with/sold on about 20 boxes in the past, be it dbox2 or dreamboxes, and i've been lucky not to have any 'real' faults to deal with, until now.

One of my DM500c boxes has no green or red light on the front. The remote doesn't work. The box is pingable via dreamup, ftping the usual stuff is all good, it's like there's a faulty component on the mobo - the infrad-red receiver maybe? The on/off switch also doesn't work and obviously that's in the same area.

I was wondering whether anyone has any knowledge of whether or not something like this is reparable by someone who has never actually had the need to open up a box before (i.e, me!).

    Cheers.

[edit] - I should probably say, that as the box is unresponsive to the remote i control it via the web interface So all is not lost. Works 100% if you discount the remote problems.

i've mauled with a few in the past.the chip just to the side of the card slot seems to be the target for alot of probs.i tend to use a rework station and flux/heat all the surface mounts and relflow them.its a stab in the dark but it can cure alot of probs.
