      thanks for responding father ted.

i have ordered a 250gig 2.5" ide hard drive which i plan to stick in.. i presume its as easy as changing a hdd in a laptop or a desktop pc.

its the images and the extras that is confusing me.. i have read a bit and its stated that using the gemini image is good.. so shall i use this.. i realise i do this with dreamup.. again seems pretty straightforwards.. So my main first question is which image should i try first.. and why?

Secondly, what is the crack with "keys". Do i need to do anything with my existing v+ box to stop talkback??

questions questions.. i told you im a bit of a newbie..

phew 250 gig hd big one do you like recording a lot of tv to install it just open your dreambox and inside youll find the ide ribbon its a little fiddly but nothing complicated anyway image wise i have a pli image on mine purley cause i like it this can be put on using dreamup (null modem cable )or telnet into it (i have never been able to do this myself thast why i stick to dreamup it takes longer but works)keys ?they are only for your dreambox nothing to do with your v+ box at all m8 so dont worry about that the now we need to get you to concentrate on your dreambox

as father ted says dreamup takes 30 mins on my 600 it did, very simple to use, click connect and it tells you when to power up box, click flash and sellect your image 30 mins later your rebooting.

there is the telnet option but i myself haven't tried it yet but its only take about 5 mins so i told.

PS best box i have had so far well pleased with it recoreding is easy and very

if i can help in anyway give me a shout.

          good quality.

          napster
          cheers

The "telnet option" is indeed as simple as logging via telnet and:

            Code:
            mount -o remount,rw /boot
            rm -f /boot/*
            reboot
Before you do this you must:
            1. Make sure you have a reasonable way to pick up the Dreambox via DHCP once you've nuked the image
            2. Have an NFI image to flash
            3. Have a machine to connect to the Dreambox web interface with that can see the Dreambox over the network (this is where you'll flash from)

For what it's worth, there's no need to have the HDD in order to get the Dreambox up and running.

                Code:
                http://www.pli-images.org/

once you have flashed your image to your box if your box is connected to a router/internet you can download it via the remote control

The only pupose of the null modem cable is to flash an image/firmware to your box everything else is done with a straight through ethernet cable if you are connecting through a router or else a crossover cable if you are connecting directly to your pc. The method of flashing mentioned by napster is the dreamup method and takes about 30 mins and this is done with the null modem cable. the method of flashing mentioned by kagon is telnet and takes about 5 mins and this is done with the ethernet cable and trhought the web interface of your pc which is why you need to know the ip address .
