whatever image you're using, make sure you have the correct files in /var/keys and /var/scce.

Delete everything in the /var/keys folder on the image.
    Download this...

Copy everything in the keys and scce folders to the /var/keys folder on your box. (this only applies to the dw 2.1 image, digital kaos image has it's own scce folder and the roms must be placed in here and not /var/keys).
    Go to sky sports 1.
    Press Blue - OK
    wait....wait....wait.....
hopefully it should come on now.

Your just wasting space in /var if you do that.

The rom files only need to be in /var/scce. If your image has a symlink (shortcut link) from /var/scce to /var/keys then you put everything in /var/keys because if you double click on /var/scce it will show you the contents of /var/keys... I hope you can understand that .

Otherwise, put all roms in /scce and all key files in /keys. That's the proper dreambox way to do things.

            Dreambox 500c

Finally got the 500c box working. I initially flashed the dk v1.1 image using the dreamup loader. At this stage I still could not get it working which i see a lot of people are having the same problem.

After a lot of searching on what i needed it appeared i was missing the keys & Scce folder.
These can be found in the 500c Software/file thread post by Devilfish or google dreambox 500c key/scce folder.

After this file is downloaded to your pc you need to transfer the files in these folders to the dreambox using an RJ45 crossover cable using the flash fxp program.

Delete anything that may be in these folders before putting in the new files
copy the files in the keys folder that you downloaded to the var/keys folder on dreambox.
next copy the files of the Scce folder that you downloaded to the var/scce folder on the dreambox.

If you have alreay done a network scan you only need to turn on the cam and you should have box up and running.

while it took me a while to navigate around all the different threads the answers are there.

Thanks to all of you who have put the info together.
            regards.

so is basically "recommended" to have the keys installed prior to flashing the image?

Think of the image as the operating system. You can't install Microsoft Office on a PC without an operating system.

Flash your image then add the files you want. Anything that was on the box prior to flashing the image will be lost forever.
