    New Virgin Modem ?

Hi, Virgin have just upgraded us to 10mb internet speed. In the process they have sent us a new modem.
Apparently it can handle the 10mb internet speed better than the old modem
if I swap modems for the new one, then activate it will the dream box still work properly and pick up all channels ?

yes this is standard practise you would have had the old sb4200 modem and now you will have the ambit 256, As for calling up to get activated yip its common.

i got told once the new one activated, you cant use the old one, it has to be re activated, this was coming from the vm call centre. So am not sure if correct or not, i not tried the old one plannning on having a play with it later.

Correct MAC address is the key. Every network device contains a unique identifier, (MAC address). It's a bit like a serial number.

Virgin need to know the MAC address of your new modem, to allow it have have an IP address and then access the internet. They will then remove your old modem MAC address from their database so you can't use it to gain an IP address on their network.

The old modem would still useable, but not on the Virgin network.
