I'm no sheep,,, please dont clone me!!!,,
Still cant see this brilliance in clones, cheap shite, you get exactly what it says on the tin,,, wasting works done by the guys who keep you all going!... but been discussed many times, so plenty about to read about, ones choice is up to yourself, but from my point of view,, ALWAYS BUY ORIGINAL!!! Stop supporting the CLONERS!!
more than gemini images will kill boxes in the future,,, believe me,,,boom!Comment

then people with clones wont use them imgs simple really.
theres nothing wrong with buying original but theres nothing wrong with clones either.
you show me the threads where the clones cause a problem, 90% of problems are img setup related and not the hardware. both suffer with the weak tuners.
i had a clone running side by side with an original and never once was there any difference in how they ran or operated.
all down to personal choice really, you cant say dont buy them as its not down to anyone to say that.....personal choice at the end of the day.
everyones car parts all original on here? or has it had after markets parts fitted at some point? my car brakes and pads where original when i bought it but ive since had replacements does that mean my car will fail to stop? im getting worried now
.
as i said the only downfall is the original owners/makers are not getting paid, but on the other hand everyone steals/tests free tv (or should i say most) so not giving money to the original makers wont worry most, also the original makers dont make the box no more so if you want a 500 your really going to end up with a clone regardless.Comment

what if the emus themselves stop working with clone boxes??????,then people with clones wont use them imgs simple really.

ummmmm food for thought,,
and when the clone box goes on fire with a dodgy power supply,, who is liable?
i know there is clones that work and perform fine,,, its the long term issue its the problem, people belive clones are a good thing!, when really its damaging for the whole scene...
I can say " dont buy clones" if i want like, and will continue to do so,, and hell mend the cloners when software updates, cam updates, and essential updates are gona get hindered big time with anti-clone measures....
if you want to spend short change on a box, at least get a box your covered by a warranty,,, can ask your supplier for help when things go wrong, and also hope the clone bomb driver doesnt get outwith gemini team for image wise, ( again i know that will change in the future )
as for cars, no really much i can comment on that, dont own one, dont drive one,,,boom!Comment

im sorry, but you can advise others not to buy clones but you cant say dont buy clones without valid reason, you state power supplies blowing up, can you provide me with any examples of this? (not being funny, just never heard of one). i see no valid reason why anyone shouldnt buy a clone IF they so wish. im not saying buy one over an original either. re: post before: personal choice.
warranty, who needs a warranty on a 30/40 quid box, if it breaks buy another, and i do say if as i know no one personally whos clone has broken. maybe some people cant afford a real one aswell.
clones damaging the scene ummm.... no comment on that one, but if you want to post how and why then im sure lots would want to read about it.
im not singling your post out mate honestly but you know what its like you see a post and disagree you post your thoughts, i wont stop you posting your thoughts but i will post a reply just as others probably will in this thread.Comment

yup,, okay i agree to an extent, i.e advising not to buy one, where i was saying dont buy one bad wording and explanation., So, we'l go with I will always advise against a clone box,, and from my own experience with plenty of them i can assure you mate there is deffo a hell of a lot to be desired for...im sorry, but you can advise others not to buy clones but you cant say dont buy clones without valid reason, you state power supplies blowing up, can you provide me with any examples of this? few wee things just to point out,,, why do you think the originals are so expensive?
why do you think there 800 and 8000 is well over shot on the budget levels?
Why do you think teams like hypercam emu wont help me compile it for dreambox?
Why do you think none of the 'other' emus were fixed for uk autoroll,, and believe me it was more to do with the uks fanatical clone support than anything else..
what about the poor buggers who are told its an original box, then get the Adios amigo message?, then have no come back because the cloners offer no further help.
Why is there no clone dealers or sellers make images and develop there own head.ko for boxs to run to prevent any clone bombs?
Do you also think gemini will be the only team that will add the clone bomb? ( again not even talking about teams i work for,, more the larger teams )
When do you reckon they will add the bomb to the cvs?
when do you think they will add more 'bombs' around other files and cause havok from more than a head.ko because again belive me, there only just begun!
why does the clone dealers or sellers not help out in the support world?
These all stop the average bob , clone or non clone getting the support that SHOULD be available for these boxes.. and when they get off there lazy arse and make there own bootloader and cvs then I may change my mind slightly.boom!Comment

well to be honest if that happens it happens but so far apart from gemini it hasnt, if people get 2 years out of one for 30/40 quid they cant moan when it goes tits up.
in 2 yrs there could be more boxes out to choose from.
dream media well ..... there no saints (my opinion).
clones have been around a while and i still see them around for some time to come,
as for buyers, well if they did research esp from the 500's they should know they stopped making them so chances are it will be fake. if they pay full money for one its not the fault of the box being clone its the seller who's the turd claiming they are real, dont make the box bad.
as with everything its fun while it lasts and stuff changes and i dont see that it will be any different down the line, there'll always be a way or another box to buy.
i mean look at it this way, if you buy a clone for 40 quid and it get fubarred in 2 months then you have had tv for 2 months at 20 quid a month, still a big saving on subs.
i mainly use sat now as i dont think there anything worth watching on the cable. but if i did want to get back into cable testing
. i wouldnt feel the need to have to buy original and i wouldnt have a problem buying a clone.
all boils down to the personal choice as ive said in 3 posts now. no right or wrong, pay full get support if it breaks, pay 30/40 quid and its not the end of the world if it dies down the line, you get your monies worth, and thats if they go tits up. to date only gem imgs have goosed boxes and even they have been brought back to life.
support is found on these sort of sites, clone or not.
as for own bootloaders ect.....that wont happen there just copying the boxes and then mass producing them in factories thats where there monies made and there involvement ends.Last edited by Guest; 1 July, 2008, 21:27.Comment

But we will agree to disagree on this one coz as much as i agree with most of your comments, i cant bring myself to support the cloners...boom!Comment

i dont support the cloner's but there out at the end of the day, i dont support them but i see no harm in using a clone,
personal choice or even affordability choice for some people.
lots of us on here are no saints so although we dont support cloner's (makers) we cant knock them too much. they stole and copied the box and many on here steal whats not theres to stealand even the img makers (not all) are not saints.
i hear what your saying and dont disagree 100% either but fact is there out regardless of what we think and they are usable.
think we both got that out of our system
. maybe we should go back on thread topic

yeh,, one cant go a week with no anti-clone rant
Sad state we got to this stage, but still actually advising people to buy a clone will only help the situation get even worse in future

*stirs the pot*
So, honestly... as I come from an embedded system/open platform background (more on the BSD side of things but that's largely irrelevant) how exactly can you justify being for "cloning" on the software side (multiple images coming from open source projects, thousands of hours of Linux kernel work on drivers, DVB interfaces, etc.) and against it on the hardware side? I really just don't see how you can logically make that argument on what is toted as an *open* platform. The passing things off as a "legitimate" Dreambox I totally agree with as being negative for the whole community for at least half a dozen reasons, but the concept of clones as a whole I just don't see as such an egregious blow.
Feel free to tell me to piss off at your leisure.
