Well, to stir some more and I've read a lot of forums on the gemini killing clones etc...adn the legalities and justification etc..

Gemini stated orginally they didnt know about the virus in the image as they took it from CVS. Then they said dreammedia is the cause of the virus as the header file (NEW) came direct from them and DM didnt tell gemini team what would happen.

Once it happened Gemini closed their forums because they didnt know what or how to handle the thousands of posts of abuse and people demanding gemini pay for repairs or replacments.

When gemini blamed it on DM (header file) they stated DM could legally do this as the geader or bootloader is their property. Now the dreambox software is firstly suppose to be opensource. Also when you examined the header file is was from dbox2 cvs (opensource) so they didnt make it or own it. But because they took an opensource file and edited it they claimed it was their property. Which quite frankly you can not do with opensource software...read the GPL license.

Now, you will have Gemini tring other things in their images, as they work very closely to DM, in fact are supported by them. When have you seen a DM made image?

As for other groups doing same as Gemini, I doubt it. Gemini lost all rep when their software broke a lot (not all) clones of 500S.

Anyone buying a DM 500 now, must know its a clone, especially when they can buy them for ?40 each now.

I've had both orginal and clones and lets just say I'm never buying orginal again due DM over pricing.

If any of my clones break within the year I just return to whom I bought it from. If orginal wouuld be the same.

How much should I pay for a second hand 500c?

I have spoken to someone who is selling one, I have no idea if it is a clone or not as I have not seen it yet. Any tips when looking at it would be useful as well. I have not seen/used a 500 before but he will show it me working with free to air channels.
If you want a 500c second hand , best to buy a clone, , original 500c have been out of production for about a year and will be hart to come by, ive got a 500c clone , and its never let me down.

And if any team wants to put a clone Bomb in their image, then thats fine, just dont expect me supporting their images , the same as Gemini, they lost their support from me, and i am sure 1000s of others have turned away from them, the same as any other image makers that decide to put a clone bomb in theire software.

To be honest when I bought it I went against my own belief that cloned hardware is bad for the industry/hobby/whatever you want to call it and the consumer.

            I was seduced by its low cost compared to the 3 genuine Dreambox's I have ( 7025, 7000 and 600 ).

I can fully understand Dream wanting to protect the copyright on both the hardware and software parts of their boxes.

Reality is if you buy a 2nd hand box you will have no warranty at all. If you buy a clone box you get 12 months for ?40 think about it.....
