    No "Service Searching"

Hope someone can help as im a noob on Cable boxes !!

Im familiar with the 500s / 7025ss and OK with using dreamUP etc, the problem came with my sisters 500c which refused to boot up one day.

I tried to get it going using the JTAG method but had no success, so a friend of a friend offered to try.

I sent it off to him and he had it back in a few days with a working Gemini image, however when I went into setup there was no "service searching" menu.
not being familiar with the cable version I reflashed it with another image but got the same thing. finally tried it back with DW 1.6 but again no "service searching".

He's gone away at the moment so cant get any answers from him !

Do I need to FTP any files across or am I just missing something obvious ?

Are there different files for JTAG, i.e. does it need to be a cable version to talk to the tuner ? Its as if its not picking the tuner up cos when I go into the help screen it doesnt list the turner like my 500s does.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

If you look in the 'about' window,, look for
    Frontend:
should say cable, satellite or terrestrial,,,,,,,,,, if it doesnt you should try another reflash or your tuner is blown...

edit - see you reflashed a few times already , so i would be sorry to say i think your tuner is away

Thanks for the fast response Satman.

Yeah I meant the About dialog it doesnt show a tuner wheareas my 500s shows the Alps.

Can anyone confirm that there is no difference in the JTAG files, i thought I read somewhere about Phillips or Alps tuners and using different JTAG files.
He might have loaded the wrong one up ?

Its a shame if it is blown cos its one of the original boxes, gonna be hard to find a replacement !

mmmm, now i quickly read your initial post, the thing is, if it was a box killed by the timb bomb its not guaranteed to fix by jtag.. as there has been cases of it totally blowing the tuner., i hope i am wrong on this occasion mate but i have 2 dm500 here in a similar state ,,

if theres no service searching menu be it cable or sat (or not fogeting terestrial ) options then either
a:your man hasnt jtaged the right bootloader up (alps philips)
b: your tuner is knackered and your dreambox cant "see" it

either try and jtag it again choosing correct bootloader and/or see if u have the plugin type tuner maybe try ad re- seat it or if old solder type tuner maybe re-flow all joints

          cheers

OK, so it *could* be that he hasnt loaded the right bootloader, how can i tell which bootloader I need ? I assume I should be able to pop the lid and find phillips or alps marked on it somewhere ? Are there any other types ?

He had left the JTAG soldered to the board and I tried it from my laptop but it wouldnt detect it, I will make sure I've got all of the right files and give it another go.

I know for certain that its not a timebomb issue :

            a) its an original box ( it has the old plug in type connectors )
            b) it was running dw 1.6 before it went wrong.

The symptoms of it going wrong sound like the tuner has gone ( she said it kept locking up and then she rebooted it and got nothing !

Thanks for the help so far.
