DM500 Backup image onto new box with Dreamup

I've a working 500c and have a new 500c on the way for a friend. Can I simply use DreamUp (with a Null Modem Cable) to take a backup of the working box. Then connect the new 500c and flash it using the backed up image?

Just making sure before I bugger up my box!

    Thanks in advance!!!!

When you're flashing your new box with dreamup, at the part when it asks if you want to flash erase during process, choose NO because if you choose yes, it will erase all your keys, services, bouquets, etc. and it will be as if it's a standard image.

This is a common mistake when flashing a backup image with dreamup. People think it's ok until they reboot the box and it doesn't clear channels or contain key files, etc.

        hi
also you can back up your image then flash it to the other box
using Guide: Flash and Backup an Image via Telnet in cable dreambox section I find this way a lot faster

        hope this may help

The telnet method is definitely much quicker, I prefer to use this method.

Or, if you're using the DK image, there's an option to backup and flash images in the User Features menu (yellow button). All you need to do then if ftp the images to/from the box.

I had the same problem, it's just that when DreamUp backs up the image, it doesn't append the file format if you don't specifically type it. All you need to do is rename the file and add .img to the end of it, it'll work fine.
