    DM500 Some channels missing

    Hi guys and gals.
My niece has recently bought a Dreambox 500c.Since she was wary of the installation she asked me to do it for her.
The box came pre-installed with software, keys etc etc,and she was told that all that needed to be done was to plug it in,scan and watch. As i have the same box i thought "no problem",duly scanned, found the channels and prepared to watch a few to ensure all was ok.Upon looking through the channels list i noticed some were missing the programme details (right side of channel name in brackets). Most of the Discovery are missing and some of the UK TV one's too,all the rest are there and running no problems.
As i am a total newbie to these boxes i'm not sure of how to get any information from the box that anyone may need to help me,what i do know is that the "front end" says Evocamd 2.12 (mean anything to anyone )?
The question is how can i get the missing channels up and running ?
Please bear in mind that i am totally new to these boxes but given clear instructions i am able to interpret them, however i do not have the ability yet to connect the box to a pc and "mess with them" that way,so anything that can be done via the remote will be greatfully tried.
Many thanks in anticipation of a reply.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.Alas i have already tried both with no difference in the outcome. In fact i have done a full scan no less than seven times now,i have also waited for up to ten minutes for the epg to load on a blank channel with no luck. The only other thing i can think of to try would be the co-ax cable as it is a bit old and has a few kinks in it.Could this cause problems ?
Thanks all the same to you both.

Its a combination of the tuner/signal.I had to convert dbox services to get all channels as a normal db scan wouldnt find them.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

The missing channels do show up in the list of channels found, but on tuning to one of them all i get is a black screen with the info bar across the bottom and "EPG not available".You mention converting dbox services,i have to admit that i don't know what this means. Is it a complex operation or could a total newbie duffer to these boxes do it ?
Thanks for the info by the way, much appreciation to all who have replied.

                        UPDATE !!!

After having no luck with all options tried i told my neice to unplug the box and leave overnight. This she did,and the next morning she connected it all up again and hey presto !!!! All channels now work perfectly.
Don't know why this would have worked,or maybe it's a coincidence, but she's as happy as larry now.
Many thanks to all who responded to my origional query.
